Helping Union Pacific Save 50% On Their Soap Usage

Union Pacific Railroad purchased Hydro Engineering Inc's soap mixing and foaming equipment and expects to save a lot of money! (Testing verified up to a 50% savings in soap). All the savings, plus the job became easier and safer!

The Hydrofoamer tested out with less airborne inhalation, which improves safety, all while cleaning is enhanced due to the properties of foaming soap.

Did we mention that if you use half the soap, you have only half the soap to dispose of? Another goal of reducing cost is being reached by Union Pacific Railroad.

Instant Wash Rack System

When AMTRAK needed a wash site right next to the tracks, they called the inventors of the Portable Wash Rack System, Hydro Engineering Inc.
The Hydropad Instant Wash Rack System allows you to drop in place any number of pad modules forming any size pad array you require.  All wash water is collected and drains to a side gutter where its pumped to the sewer or recycled.  All equipment is above ground so no excavation is required.  No design, permits or construction... it sets up in one day.

Chemical Foaming System "Hydrofoamer"

Stationary wall-mount foaming system:

Hydrofoamer - a wall-mount foaming system. In testing at UPRR Hydrofoamers were determined to be easier and safer to use and they used up to 50% less soap in all cleaning operations.

As many as 5 wall-mount systems can be used in conjunction with the model 19408 soap mixing tank. Systems include spring retract hose reel that hold 75' of dual-foaming hose, safety ON/OFF trigger gun with 36" wand and soap nozzle. A wall-mount gun holster is also included.

Chemical Mixing System and Storage Tank

The Union Pacific Railroad buys soap in bulk. Hydro Engineering provides a safe and simple solution to the handling of that bulk soap.

Here is how it works: A line is provided from the large bulk tank to our soap-mixing tank. Via a chemically resistant pump, the soap is pumped from your bulk tank to our mixing system. The soap is automatically mixed to the exact dilution that you specify. Now the diluted soap is pumped to up to 5 foaming stations, on demand.

Safe and simple operation along with exact dilution ratios are the key to the Automatic Soap Mixing Tank.

Chemical Foaming System - Hydrofoamer (portable)

The Hydrofoamer is a portable foamer that is safe and simple to move on or under ramps or any portion of the locomotive facility. The design of the soap foamer is such that there are less airborne vapors produced and evaporation of the soap is minimized, keeping the people and the environment safer. Testing proves that our Hydrofoamers save up to 50% on soap use and soap disposal.

Standard with 50’ hose, gun, wand and foaming nozzle. This is a self-contained foamer that carries 35 gallons of ready-to-use soap.

Hydroblaster, Hot Water, Wet Abrasive Blasting System

Hydroblaster intake port cleaner.

This process is the only Wet Abrasive Blast System that has been approved by General Electric for intake port cleaning.

With the Hydroblaster system intake port cleaning time is dropped to minutes instead of hours.

Railroad testing shows that the Hydroblaster intake port cleaner pays for itself in labor savings every 12th engine washed.

Hydroblaster Trailer-Mounted Wash/Recovery System

UPRR and Hydro Engineering jointly designed this system for washing M/W equipment. Tools for collecting the wash water and filtering the wash water for reuse are all standard. Over a 6 month trial period (1st article test) the design was brought to completion.

The Hydroblaster provides the ability to wash/collect/filter for an entire day before having to properly dispose of the collected and filtered water. The solids collected from the wash process are also captured so they can be properly disposed of.

This safe and simple system is helping UPRR eliminate the risk of fines for improper washing. Don’t let your wash water hit the ground. The Hydroblaster provides the tools to meet the EPA regulation 40CFR122.2 Clean Water Act.
