We've been urged to
conserve water as much as possible. But what if your business
is a car wash? How can you expect to be profitable?
Well, a Utah company
called Hydro Engineering is solving that problem. It has developed
a new car wash wastewater filtration and water recycling system.
Called the Extreme
Clean System, Hydro Engineering's product basically filters
and separates contaminants out of water and allows the water
to be reused. It works like this: used water at the car wash
falls into a central drain and is pumped to the Extreme Clean
reclaim system. The system includes a set or series of tanks
where oils and solids are removed. The filtered water can
then be reused for subsequent washings. Most of the oil can
also be recycled, and what isn't reused is consumed by special
bacteria called Biodigesters.
The Extreme Clean
systems are easy to install in any car wash and simple to
maintain. The special filters they use are automatically maintained
and require very little user attention.
Hydro Engineering
has also developed high tech pressure washers. Its Hydroblaster
Automatic Truck and Bus Wash Systems can thoroughly wash an
80-foot long semi truck in less than two minutes using only
about 16 percent of the fresh water other wash systems normally
use. The result is conserved water and money savings. One
Salt Lake truck wash that uses the system reported saving
more than $13,000 a year.
Hydro Engineering's
filtration and recycling systems aren't just for stationary
wash bays. Heavy equipment can be cleaned onsite using portable
wash water collection systems called Hydropads. The pads capture
the used water and channel it to be filtered and recycled.
Several pad systems are being used by the U.S. Army for Operation
Enduring Freedom. And with the ongoing drought nationwide,
Hydro Engineering is busy installing its other systems across
the country.
