 Montana carwash shut
down
FAIRFIELD, MT
Local residents and area
carwashes are taking major steps to cut back on water usage as three
of the city's four wells have gone temporarily dry, according to
The Billings Gazette.
The paper reported that area
carwashes have voluntarily stopped using their facilities, including
a local auto dealership that has suspended all carwashes on its
site.
"This is as bad as it's ever
been around here," Ben Rhodes, the volunteer fire chief and service
manager at Mills Motors, said in the article. "The water table is
so low that the pumps can't pump water from the wells."
According to local officials,
drought conditions are to blame, and while they expect the city's
wells to be at least partially replenished next month — when the
local irrigation district begins releasing water from Gibson Reservoir,
the article stated.
